In 2016, Wallen began crafting his debut studio album. Over the next couple of years, he released singles like "The Way I Talk," "You Make It Easy," and "Up Down." Finally, in 2018, his album "If I Know Me" hit the shelves, with the hit track "Whiskey Glasses" climbing the country charts.

In 2020, Morgan dropped his second album, "Dangerous: The Double Album," which surpassed the success of his debut. Despite facing controversy over a racial slur, Wallen's popularity soared. Surprisingly, both physical and digital album sales spiked by as much as 100% after the incident.

In 2023, Wallen released his third studio album, "One Thing at a Time." It dominated the charts, with all 36 tracks entering the Billboard 100. The single "Last Night" became his first to top the Hot 100, and the album's 12-week consecutive run at the top broke records previously held by artists like Billy Ray Cyrus.

Morgan Wallen Controversy

On February 2, 2021, TMZ published a video from January 31, where Morgan Wallen was heard using a racial slur towards a friend after a night out. Wallen promptly issued an apology. Following this, many radio stations temporarily stopped playing his music, and major streaming platforms like Apple Music, Pandora, and Spotify removed his songs from featured playlists.

CMT and the Country Music Association also distanced themselves from Wallen, removing his appearances from their platforms. His record label, Big Loud, along with partner Republic Records, suspended their contract with him indefinitely.

The Academy of Country Music declared Wallen and his album, "Dangerous: The Double Album," ineligible for the 56th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. On February 10, Morgan posted an apology video, urging his fans not to defend him.

In April 2021, Wallen donated $300,000 to the Black Music Action Coalition in the names of 20 individuals who had advised him following the incident. These individuals were given the choice to donate their $15,000 to a charity of their choosing or retain it within the BMAC.

Morgan addressed his remarks publicly on Good Morning America on July 23, admitting that he was with friends and made a mistake by using hurtful language. Wallen's songs returned to country radio in August with the release of his single "Sand in My Boots."

Although nominated for Favorite Male Country Artist and Favorite Country Album at the 2021 American Music Awards, Wallen was not invited to attend the ceremony and therefore couldn't accept any awards, none of which he won.
